Boundaries in Dating: Making Dating Work by Dr. Henry Cloud & Dr. John Townsend

The great thing about reading 52 books in 52 weeks is that you finally get around to reading those books you've always meant to read. This is one of those books. I underlined and highlighted and just plain enjoyed this book. Here are some of my favorite thoughts from Cloud and Townsend:
  • The whole life is a full life. And the by-product of fullness is that the fulfilled person is also a very attractive one.
  • You are initially attracted to a person's outsides, but over time you will experience his insides. His character is what you will experience long-term and be in relationship with over time.
  • Become deeply involved in your friendships, and value the good things you're getting out of them; this can fulfill you inside and help resolve the tendency to romanticize platonic relationships.
  • Don't fall for an introvert simply because you're an extrovert. Fall for someone who calls you into love, growth, and God. And then appreciate his unique differences.
  • Your best chance always depends on your being healthy to attract and be attracted to a good, safe, healthy person. And that has a lot to do with your own commitment to growth and being involved in life. If you are doing that, and involved with God, we think you have great reason for hope in dating.
