draw me nearer

the day before thanksgiving, josh and i seized the opportunity to take a blustery visit to the c&o canal.
 we took part in a foot race to the overlook, windswept photos and the austere beauty of fall.
 there is so much to be thankful for every day of the year. but this weekend, my thankfulness has seemed especially clear.
 thankful for friends, family and food.
its harder to remember a thankful heart in the days to come, when life's questions and hardship abound.
but as sis and i like to remind each other, the lord is always present and the lord is always good.
there are depths of love that i cannot know
till i cross the narrow sea;
there are heights of joy that i may not reach
till i rest in peace with thee.

draw me nearer, nearer blessed lord,
to the cross where thou hast died;
draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed lord,
to thy precious, bleeding side.

fanny crosby. 1926.
