Today is our dear Grannie Jo's 81st birthday! We are celebrating her today, and missing her from afar.

Grannie Jo lives in the tiny town of Tishomingo in south eastern Oklahoma. Tishomingo has one traffic light and one bar called Judy's Place. It also has one drugstore called Lafitte's Pharmacy. It is run by Gene Lafitte. Mr. Lafitte is a short bald man who is always grinning, and cracking jokes. He visits Grannie Jo on occasion, and during the summer they sit on the screened in porch together and drink iced tea. Mr. Lafitte is married to Jean. She is a tiny wisp of a woman, and when she talks she sounds like she is out of breath. Mike and Anna also live in Tishomingo. They are one of our favorite couples. Mike leads the services at Bullard Chapel Baptist Church, and when he greets you he says, "Now, how can I be praying for you?" and you get the feeling he really wants to know. Anna is Mike's wife. Anna can lasso a calf, or bake bread from scratch- whichever you prefer. Jacob also lives in Tishomingo, only Jacob is not a human- he is a dog. He is Grannie Jo's dog. He has bitten Anna on the finger, and bitten me on the mouth. Both times he drew blood.

Tishomingo holds some incredibly precious memories for Courtney and I. We like to reminisce about summers spent in Oklahoma, and the kinds of things we learned about ourselves and other people while vacationing there. Grannie Jo fills so many of those memories. We are grateful she is celebrating her 81st year of life! Happy, happy birthday dear Josephine!
