if the slipper fits

i went wedding dress shopping with my roommate this afternoon.
along with her mom.
and 5 of her 9 bridesmaids.
roommate is getting married next august to a wonderful boy.

we, her loyal entourage, spent a couple of hours watching her try on dress after dress, trying to decide which one we liked her in the best.
i must have snapped 200 photos by the time we left david's bridal.

i thought i knew what it would be like; to shop with a bride for her dress.
but i was wrong.
there are no attendants waiting on you hand and foot; there is no champagne to sip while you make a decision; there isnt any soft lighting or string quartet in the corner
(is it obvious how much i like disney princess
movies?)

instead its just a girl, looking for a dress, to marry a boy she loves.
some dont fit well on top, others overwelm her body and pool at her feet.
and every now and then we catch a glimpse of a dream that she has for the dress.
she holds it close to her chest and looks at us, dreamy smile on her face.
"what do you all think?" she asks as she turns in the frothy white lace.
we all nod in agreement.
we love it.

"i was thinking if i had this top and the lace from this dress and the bottom half of this one with a few flowers in my hair instead of a veil with..."
and our eyes glaze back over.
we had been so close to finding cinderella her missing slipper.

another day, perhaps.
another store.
and soon, we'll find the perfect dress, for the bride marrying her prince charming.

entertaining ourselves while the bride changed.
