happy valentines day

i really truly do love valentines day.
even as a single lady.

i will never forget the excitement of grade school, analyzing what boy was going to leave the, i love you-will you be my valentine, in my decorated paper mailbox.

or the anticipation of high school, wondering who my locker secret admirer was and hoping that it wasnt the accident of a forgetful janitor.

or even first hearing about the martyrdom of st. valentine in rome, an early christian persecuted for a lasting faith.

i really do believe in a day dedicated entirely to love.

i happened to stop by whole foods on the way home from work. and what a sight it was.
by the checkout, 20 or so men, young and old, nervous and confident, stood holding red boxes of chocolate, long bottles of wine and colorful bouquets of flowers, to bring to their lady loves.

it just made my heart happy.

but about loving the people who are with you through it all.
