Today is Little Sister's birthday! She is all of 23 years old on this wintry January morning. I am so grateful to have Courtney for a sister, and a friend. Included below (in no particular order) are 23 reasons why I love Little Sister...
1) Because she is the best kind of listener! No roaming eyes, yawning, mid-conversational "huhs?", etc. She really listens, and really cares.
2) Because she will gladly help me discover any and all information about a crush.
3) Because she means what she says.
4) Because she greatly loves each member of our family.
5) Because Courtney has such a heart for individuals with special needs. She has spent the better part of several summers helping out at a local camp for children with disabilities.
6) Because I can always depend on her to get a manicure and pedicure with me!
7) Because Courtney is a loyal friend, and not just to me- Courtney devotes her time and energy to helping close friends in her life.
8) Because she is a redhead!
9) Because she dreams big dreams.
10) Because she has a valiant heart, and a fighter's spirit.
11) Because unlike when we were little, Courtney no longer turns to me and says, "Em, if you do that one more time, I'm gonna bite you."
12) Because it would be a very testosterone-filled world to have four brothers, and not one sister.
13) Because she shares some of my happiest memories.
14) Because she sparkles.
15) Because of her encouraging notes from California!
16) Because she, too, believed we could make it in California.
17) Because of her love for one ugly, stinky cat named Samantha.
18) Because of her desire to seek God's best for her life, and to embrace each season He gives her with hope.
19) Because of her nervous giggling.
20) Because she will allow me to occasionally give her an ocean of a hug.
21) Because of her beautiful singing voice!
22) Because even after 23 years of knowing her, she continues to surprise me.
23) Because life would not be the same without her.
2) Because she will gladly help me discover any and all information about a crush.
3) Because she means what she says.
4) Because she greatly loves each member of our family.

Here's to year 2009, and year 23 for you, Courtney! One of my favorite verses from 1 Corinthians talks about knowing things only in part now, but one day understanding everything fully. And just as we understand everything fully, we ourselves will be fully understood (13:12). Keep fighting the good fight, Courtney. One day, one day... you will have the answers to so many unanswered questions. Until then, know that I am so glad to have you for a sister, and fellow adventurer on this earth. I love you! Always!
