bittersweet

once again, i must say goodbye.

goodbye...
to 5 weeks in maryland
to 3 little brothers at home
to 1 little brother at the academy
to mom and dad
to cold icy days
to my own big white bed
to a stinky cat and dog
to the quietness of winter

and the hardest of all the
goodbyes...
to big sister in the city.

we spoke on the phone briefly tonight. she in her room, city noises blaring in the background. me in my room, brothers yelling down the hall.
when we speak again, a 3 hour time difference and 8 states will separate our voices.
we feel the distance.

but i will remember a magical snowy weekend that i spent with her in the city.
and one especially quaint coffe house where we shared tea and dreams.
i will think of her, when i am back at school, the way she was sitting across from me...

warm cup in hand
brown eyes fixed on mine
smiling slowly appearing from the right side of her mouth
legs bumping legs
muffled giggles
light on her face
the eternity of that evening

and most importantly remembering, that i will see her again before i know it.

rhythm of schoolwork
spring break
swaying palm trees
mentors
excitement
warmth

i continue to leave my heart divided between two coasts. knowing that each holds unique memories that i cherish.
