though we are only a short drive away from dc, the city seems to elude us when the summer heat and bus load of tourists roll in.
last night was different.
we took in the fourth of july on the west lawn of the capitol.
and what a wonderful celebration it was. with views of the washington monument in the distance, the national symphony orchestra played military marches, sprinkled with booming fireworks, as we celebrated america's 235th birthday. from children with flags sitting on shoulders for the best view to couples dancing in the grass to big band show tunes, everyone seemed to be bursting with pride and patriotism.
and we were all reminded of the dedicated men and women still serving abroad, the decisions our president faces even today and the choices each american makes towards a better future.

and the power of prayer over our country.
