my friend was in town for the past few days.she left this morning on a greyhound bus bound for scranton.
in her wake she left the most perfect hot pink nail polish, memories of a four hour card game and piqued my interest in fireflies.
since she doesnt have them in the bay area, seeing them out in the backyard, lighting against the dark trees, was immediately enthralling.
i must admit, i take them for granted.
but watching her, mesmerized by the tiny bright bugs, i took a closer look.
they really are magical. how they blink in the milky blackness, slowly; taking time to send out their soft yellow messages.
blink on.
blink off.
i think i shall spend a little more time watching them this summer.
and see what else surprises me.
