crispix

guess what they had in the caf tonight?
crispix!
as soon as i saw them i was reminded of grandad, my dad's dad.
he was this huge, weathered cowboy who had crispix in the morning with his coffee.
he is the reason that i count them among my favorite cereals.

whenever big sister and i would visit the grandparents in oklahoma, we could always bank on a candy dish full of riesen bars and the pantry stocked with crispix.

lightly sweetened rice and corn squares, mixed with cold nonfat milk. crunchy perfection.an old picture of me, grandad and big sister.

the reason i bring up crispix is because of something else (isnt it always?).
big sister and i had talked about giving up something for lent this year.
i mentioned coffee.
she mentioned facebook.

after finishing my coffee on monday, i realized i forgot my lent pact.
after telling big sister about my failure, she mentioned that she saw lent more as a lifestyle.
she explained that she doesnt just want to give up one specific item but instead focus on the lent season and what it is leading up to: easter.
what are the distractions in our lives that prevent us from being with christ more?
if we focus on a change that involves us being aware of those distractions, it will last far after the lent season is over.

cereal distracts me. i love it. all the time.
not that i want to give it up but i want to know that i spend as much time focusing on my relationship with christ as i do describing my favorite cereals.
even if they do have crispix in the caf every night.
