airport homecomings. across the united states, troops slowly make their way from iraq, afghanistan and kuwait to michigan, indiana and nebraska where home fires have been burning since they left, weary workers finally take off 9-5 and travel and see their parents and i hop on that la plane to arrive home.
you know what i love about this time of year?
meals with family. snippets of hidden conversation behind the food banquet, competitive games between dads, kids, cousins, aunts, uncles, moms and christmas carol singing from the 10 year old to the ones who are 60.
you know what i love about this time of year?
christmas eve service. infants who usually sit in classrooms, peer googly-eyed over mom's shoulder, grandpa's pass mints down the row of grandkids and newlyweds embrace each other tightly during the low lighted singing of silent night.

you know what i love about this time of year?
our savior's birth. the gentle reminder that o come o come emmanuel resulted in the most perfect gift ever given, that jesus lay as each of us have, a tiny baby.
but he brought something none of us could give ourselves:
grace.
for God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ. 2 corinthians 5:21
