Hey diddle doodle, he sure ain't no poodle.

11 Things I love about Desmond Jack:

1) Though his given name is Desmond Jack, he will respond oh-so-eagerly to "Rainey!!!!" Or "Desmond Jackal!" Or "Rain Man!" Or "Desi!" [He has the IQ of a squirrel.]

2) The thump-thump-thump of his tail going double time when any family member enters the room. [Lord help you if you're not family...]

3) His quizzical brow when I pose questions like, "What are you doing, Rainey?" "What are you thinking, Baby?" "Are you being a good boy?"

4) The aptly communicated sign language number for, Hug me pet me love me squeeze me.

5) The poor, pathetic expressions he makes when being shampooed. It's somewhere between, "Why must you subject me to this torture?" and "I just wish I could sink into the grass right this very second."
6) His love for frozen yogurt. Oh my WORD. How that dog loves frozen yogurt. Why, he can smell frozen yogurt a mile away... it doesn't matter how it is disguised, or who is hiding it... He will STOMP STOMP STOMP through the forest, and... never mind. [The Red Ripe Strawberry preschool story? Anyone...? Anyone...? Bueller?]

7) His resemblance to Hannibal the Cannibal when he wears his muzzle.
8) His fear of frogs. And chipmunks. And insects. And, generally speaking, anything less than six inches in dimension and 1/100 the size of him.

9) His big ol' mournful, droopy bedroom eyes.

10) The way he sniffs the Cat [who has been his roommate for the last four years] every day, as if to ask, "Now, who are you, new friend?"

11) The way he rolls in the grass, sleeps with his paws propped up on the wall, growls at the piano teacher, tears down the stairs, barks at the deer, laps the water out of the birdbath, subconsciously runs in his afternoon naps, sniffs for crumbs under the breakfast table, and licks my face from chin to forehead every single morning of his precious canine life.
